    Description

50 body feathers from the shoulder area of Ringneck rooster pheasants. The length are approximately 2" to 3 “. These are the "almond" or "church window" feathers. They have been washed, dried and ready to use. These are good quality, clean, beautiful feathers for lots of craft projects. Perfect for jewelry, wreaths, costume, hair, fall decor and so much more.
You will get 50 feathers exactly like the ones in the photos.
Pheasants, turkeys and other game birds are like most birds when it comes to bathing. They take daily dust baths called dusting or sand bathing. This is where they scratch the dirt to make dust wallows and then they completely dust themselves by rocking their bodies and using their wings to work the dust into the feathers and skin. The dust helps absorb oil in the feathers to keep them from becoming greasy and matted and helps smother or minimize lice, feather mites and other parasites. It also helps remove dry skin and other debris in the feathers and keeps them clean and flexible.
Although this is great cleaning and maintenance for the feathers while the birds are alive it's not so great for using feathers in your projects. The dirt and oils can leave the feathers smelling bad and attract bugs. It can also discolor the feathers over time leaving them dull and lackluster.
All the feathers I sell are soaked in a safe cleaning solution to remove the dirt, oils and parasites. They are then power sprayed with hot water to remove the cleaning solution and any excess dirt and oils. This is important for the beauty and longevity of the feathers in your projects and also keeps them from developing an "aroma".
While steaming or freezing is a good way kill any parasites that are on the feathers it does not completely remove the dirt and oils which over time could attract more insects.
