Each pack contains approximately 7 feathers of sizes ranging from 9” up to about 12”.
Emu Feathers can be as small as a few inches up to 20+ inches! Our feathers are gently washed and conditioned, never dyed or colored and always cruelty free.
We have a small number of emus that we breed once a year. They are free ranging and very friendly, lovingly hand raised from the moment they hatched.
The Emu Feather is one of nature’s most unique, as it features a double plume. The Emu and its cousin the cassowary are the only birds in the world that have two feathers of the same length originating from the one quill.  All Emu feathers have this unique trait however they vary widely depending on what part of the bird they are on.  New growth feathers are small, dark, thin and very soft.  Neck feathers are sort of wispy, white with a black tip.  They puff these up during courtship or when they feel threatened.  The body feathers are a bit darker with the black tip, about 6 inches and very soft.  Feathers get longer towards the back or tail and begin to get quite stiff and coarse.
The quill of the Emu Feather is quite tiny and cannot be used to hold ink like goose or ostrich feathers were in the past. The feathers are very soft as the vanes are not held together by barbs like most other bird feathers.
Emu Feathers can be used for many applications including fishing lures, clothing accents, flower arrangements, hats, bird nesting, hair extensions, jewelry and numerous decorative arts and crafts.  They can be washed and styled with a curling iron or straightener and they are quite durable.
